The clock keeps ticking, days keep flying by and, despite frigid temps and sleet, the protestors are still out and still being arrested. However, there will come a time when we all have to choose. We all have to choose because, despite the ongoing “branding” of it, it’s not about Ferguson or about St. Louis. It’s about racism and how that leads to police brutality, socioeconomic discrimination, profiling, lack of access, classism, and myriad other societal ills.
There are an abundance of choices from, will I protest or not, to, if I protest, will it be non-violently or violently. Please choose wisely and well for it WILL matter. Our nation must confront its’ basic problems and one of these, perhaps the most ignored is racism. If there is rot at the root, the tree will fall.
Or, as a famous man once said, “Washing one’s hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral.” Paulo Freire
