By training, I’m both a scientist and a paralegal with decades of experience in both arenas. So, while not surprised by how the grand jury ruled on the case of Eric Garner of NYC, I was totally dismayed at how simple logic let alone scientific expertise was somehow, either omitted or twisted.
The Facts: On a VERY clear video, Mr. Garner, an overweight, 43yr old asthmatic, is arrested by 5 NYC police men. He is placed in a choke hold, which was BANNED by NYCPD’s own force. He says, “I can’t breathe.” ELEVEN times. The NYC coroners office ruled it a HOMICIDE. And yet, another grand jury lets the police involved off the hook.
